"Most people are on the world, not in it – have no conscious sympathy or relationship to anything about them – undiffused, separate, and rigidly alone like marbles of polished stone, touching but separate." (John Muir, 1890)
Respond to ONE of the following prompts (or write about anything else related to nature):
1. Do any outdoor activity (take a walk, go to the park, swim in the ocean, etc.) and then write about where you went, what you did, what you saw and anything you learned.
2. Sit in your yard or garden. Observe the animals that visit, the trees and plants growing, and the flowers blooming. How do insects, birds and “weeds" interact? Describe what you see/hear/smell/etc.
3. Search for bugs and insects in or around your home. Who are they and what are they doing? Do they help or hinder you?
4. Compare the trees/plants/animals/insects/weather in Southern California to your native country. How is it similar and/or different?
5. Look at the sky. Describe the sunrise, sunset, stars and/or the moon. What shapes do the stars make?
6. Stand very close to the trunk of a tree. Observe closely any details you see. Write down these details using color, size, and shape words to give your reader a clear picture of what you are seeing. Then take two steps backward. Again observe what you notice about the tree and record it.
Your blog post should be at least 2-3 paragraphs in length and is due along with two comments by Friday, March 28 at 5:00 p.m.
